Casper Area Infrastructure

Wide Area Infrastructure
Gates
Casper's I-gate is currently the open source xastir, running on the RedHat distribution of LINUX. The plan is to impliment WA4DSY's APRSD as the server/I-gate in the next few weeks. The box is a 2nd hand HP 'Pavilion' with an Intell Celleron 450Mhz CPU and 128Mh RAM. Xastir provides I-gate services as KC7ZRU-2. 24x7 Internet access is graciously provieded by Natrona Transfer and Storage via their T-1.

Local Path Information

Since, so far, my I-gate and Tracker are the ONLY APRS stations in the Casper area, choice of path is almost irrelevant. As long as you can hit KC7ZRU-2, you'll get into the TCP/IP stream. However, to facilitate growth and best practices, any new APRS stations are encouraged to use a Path of RELAY,WIDE (or WIDE2-2) to get to the I-gate from most places. Any future digipeaters I'll be putting up (One on top of Casper mountain this summer!) will be WIDEn-n enabled. Using 'non-N-N' paths shouldn't enouraged. As the local RF network grows, these suggestions will change. If you hve questions on what path to use, please ask.
Anyone interested in setting up a digipeater, please do! Just get in touch with me so we can coordinate as well as update this information
