Alrighty, then, Sports Fans,

I got this note from Donnie Norvell, and would like to pass it
on to all participants on the Wyoming Swap Shop mail list. Not everyone will
be interested, but, those who are, can correspond with Donnie, and suggest
ideas, and offer their assistance with volunteer radio communications along
the route of the re-enactment Pony Express ride. I think it would be a real
“Hoot!!” to follow along or station a camper w/radio capabilities along the
route. My choice would be up on South Pass, somewhere along the route,
w/access to a couple of repeaters I can access from up there. Another idea,
would be a special event station, commerating the Pony Express re-enactment.
Could be lots of fun.

Howdy Paul,

My name is Donnie Norvell, Morris-N5WGX's son. I am involved in the National
Pony Express Association. We have an annual re-ride in June. I have been
trying to coordinate with Tate Belden-KA7O, the Casper Ham Club, and the
ARRL Wyoming Section Manager on this. I am trying to spread the word and
trying to get some interest in helping with communications for our re-ride.
This year is the 149th anniversary of the Pony Express with 2010 being the
150th.We are trying to work on some big plans for the 150th anniversary.

California, Nevada, and Utah all have ham clubs that help report the
location of the mail and rider.

The main purpose for Ham Radio is to give real time reports on the location
of the mail and rider. This information goes to the ride captains and lets
them if there are any delays or problems, or whether great time is being
made. The reports also published on the NPEA website via e-mail and the
hotline that is set up for reporting this info.

We will have GPS tracker in the mochila, but we can use Ham Radio to help
keep track of the mail.

What we can use is like a main control station and mobile stations at the
different exchange points. The dates are June 9th-19th,2009 with the mail
passing through Wyoming June 12-14th.The mail will enter Wyoming at Henry,
NÉ at 2pm on June 12th.This event runs 24 hours during this ten days. The
mail can be anywhere from two hours ahead of schedule to two hours behind.

What I need to know from whomever wants to help is freq's that are going to
be used, and times when that person can be contacted, and what areas that
person will cover. I need to know this information so I can give it to the
NPEA so we can help with coordination. I do know of two hams beside myself
that participate in the Re-ride that will be glad to help report throughout
SE Wyoming. We need to know who we can contact to help report this info.

More information on the re-ride can seen at www.xphomestation.com I can be
contacted at wyomingcowboydonnie at yahoo.com with any questions and if I don't
know the answer I can direct contact info of those who might know the
answer.

There is a lot that can be done with this. All that is needed is some
interest and coordination. A special events station could even be set for a
main station. Also there is talk of development of a special Pony Express
patch for ham radio operators.

So if you could help pass this info around and help spread the interest, I
would appreciate it. Tell everybody to make sure to contact me with any
feedback and commitment to help coordinate everything.
